Position Summary: The Camden Fairview School District Commissioned School Security Officer (CSSO) will provide armed safety and security to the CFSD Safety and Security Team.

 

Essential Functions- The following duties are representative of performance expectations. The CSSO's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Prevent unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings and/or loitering on school grounds.
  • Provide armed security for all occupants of school buildings and grounds. 
  • Oversee and participate in security inspections and assessments of school facilities. 
  • Monitor security issues in school facilities.
  • Make recommendations to correct identified security concerns. 
  • Inform counselors, teachers, and school administrators of student behavior issues.
  • Serve as liaison with police, fire, and other municipal departments to ensure maximum use of their services to provide adequate security and safety.
  • Prepare reports and assist in special assignments as directed by the school administration. 
  • Perform work assignments using computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendars, e-mail, and database software.
  • Assist with fire drills and other emergency building drills and evacuations.
  • Read and respond to email communication.
  • Abide by district security guidelines, directives, and post orders. 
  • Attend and complete all staff development training as required by state law or directed by supervisors.
  • Assist administrators and staff in crisis and emergencies.
  • Assist with traffic control on school campuses when needed.
  • Attends court as necessary when related to school district legal matters.
  • As Arkansas law and district policies require, report suspected bullying to building principals or designees.
  • Report to proper authorities any cases of child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
  • Provide ongoing training and assistance to site-based staff in matters of safety and security services.
  • Abide by all state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Adhere to all policies of the Camden Fairview School District. 
  • Practice and utilize de-escalation practices when appropriate.             

Competencies:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of state and local policies and procedures regarding the administration of security/school safety programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the current literature, trends, methods, and developments in security and school safety. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules,and regulations.
  • General knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization, and administration. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards.
  • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Ability to use common office machines and popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheets, and file maintenance. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and develop meaningful reports from them.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. 

Other Requirements:

  • Must pass a preliminary criminal background and child maltreatment check.
  • Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students, staff, and members of the public.
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas driver's license.
  • Must successfully pass a psychological exam.
  • Must be able to successfully complete sixty (60) hours of initial training, including a written exam, and pass an additional background check administered by the Arkansas State Police.
  • Must meet all requirements to be a commissioned school security officer under Arkansas law (including, without limitation, Ark Code Ann. 17-40-337).

Knowledge and Expertise:

Proven experience working with security and emergency medical services systems, procedures for organizational effectiveness.

 

Work Environment:

Work is primarily conducted in an office or school setting. Prolonged stationary work and attention to detail in desk or computer tasks may be required. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills.
