Job Description:

Responsible for providing assistance to special needs students on a daily basis in an efficient and caring manner.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional behavior, appearance, and work ethic to represent the school district in a positive manner at all times.
  • Assist with wheelchairs and getting students to the classroom on a daily basis.
  • Help students with feeding and supervise students in cafeteria as needed. 
  • Assist with toileting needs. 
  • Monitor students in the classroom, outside for recess, and any other activities.
  • Assist with manipulatives on a daily basis.
  • Be willing to learn and participate in PCM. 
  • Tutor and provide assistance with students in small groups. 
  • Observe and protect the confidentiality as it applies to students. 
  • Implement therapeutic activities as directed by Speech, OT, PT, or Behavior Therapist.
  • Escort students into general education classroom and facilitate their participation in the classroom to the extent appropriate.
  • Provide and document personal care for students with disabilities which may include the following:
    Lifting and positioning of students
    Changing clothes/diapers
    Catheterization
    Tube Feedings
    Oral feeding and food preparation
    Oral Suctioning
    Tracheostomy care
    Brushing of teeth
    Monitoring and documenting seizures
    Monthly cycle care 
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the District.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Other Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must have 60 hours of coursework at an institution of higher education or a passing score on the ParaPro test (Please upload transcripts or score report).
  • Must pass a preliminary criminal background and child maltreatment check. 

Knowledge and Expertise:

 

 

Experience is preferred but not required.

 

Work Environment:

Most job responsibilities for this position are performed in an indoor school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills. This job position may experience periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting may occur depending on the level of student activity and personal care needs.
