Job Description:

To help students facilitate learning through the use of art and establish and maintain instructional goals and objectives, according to the Camden Fairview School District’s Art Department.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides art instruction for classes.    
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. 
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior. 
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. 
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. 
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and in the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

  • Collaborate with other staff members to establish instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of instructional assistant(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching and learning process.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through interim and formative assessments.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the school district's mission.
  • Manage student behavior per student policies and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents and students concerning the academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies applicable to classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned non-teaching duties.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.  
  • Valid Arkansas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the assigned subject and level, or the ability to obtain an Arkansas teaching certificate in the assigned subject level.  
    • Applicants who hold an out-of-state teaching certificate must provide documentation showing they have started reciprocity procedures as required by the Arkansas Department of Education.
  • Must pass a preliminary criminal background and child maltreatment check.
  • Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students, staff, and members of the public.
  • Must have or obtain their science of reading awareness within the first 30 days of employment.

Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Experience is not required, but preferred. 

 

Work Environment:

 

Most job responsibilities for this position are in an indoor school environment that is temperature-controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills. This job position may require periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
