The Assistant Special Education Supervisor supervises special education programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves supervising special education teachers and staff, collaborating with general education personnel, and supporting inclusive practices to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Nurture and sustain a culture of collaboration, trust, learning, and high expectations.  
• Promote and protect the welfare and safety of students and staff.  
• Plan and lead professional development activities for teachers, administrators, and support staff.  
• Prepare, maintain, or oversee the preparation and maintenance of attendance, activity, planning, or personnel reports and records.  
• Supervise a small staff by assigning and reviewing work, establishing procedures, training staff, and evaluating the performance of incumbents.
• Coordinate and conduct education and training improvements to comply with federal and state laws and regulations and provide technical assistance concerning improvement activities and federal funding.
• Oversee Special Education policy development for staff manuals to ensure promulgation of Special Education criteria by monitoring deadlines and providing technical assistance.
• Analyze, interpret, and apply state and federal laws, rules, and regulations as related to licensure.
• Develop reports and conduct training, workshops, and professional conferences of special education requirements and policy revision.
• Prepare status reports, memoranda, and other correspondence.
• Plan, create, and implement programs for students.
• Facilitate evaluations and manage grievance procedures
• Attend and participate in meetings and seminars
• Coordinate special projects as assigned.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding licensure, educational/training program development and presentation, and teaching principles and methods.
• Plan, design, implement, and manage allotted funds to ensure operations stay within budget.

• Report, investigate, and address suspected bullying as required by Arkansas law and district policies.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.

• Must pass a preliminary criminal background and child maltreatment check.

• Must have SoR Assessor's training or be willing to complete this training as soon as feasible. 
• Must have a valid Arkansas license and be certified. .  

 

Knowledge and Expertise:

• Experience as a special education teacher is required. 

 

Work Environment:

 

Most job responsibilities for this position are performed in an indoor school environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. Noise levels are mostly low to moderate. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills. This job position may experience periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
